Frequently asked questions
What is Ramp4x4?
Ramp4x4 is a guided interval-training coach for iPhone and Apple Watch built around the Norwegian 4×4 protocol: a warmup, four hard intervals separated by recovery periods, and a cooldown. The app paces each phase with timers, heart-rate zone guidance, voice prompts, and haptics, and tracks your history and trends over time.
What is the Norwegian 4×4 protocol?
It is a widely studied high-intensity interval format: four intervals of roughly four minutes at a hard effort, each followed by an easier recovery period. It is commonly used to train cardiorespiratory fitness, often measured as VO₂ max. Ramp4x4 provides training guidance only — it is not medical advice. See the Ramp4x4 Terms of Use.
Do I need an Apple Watch?
Ramp4x4 is designed Apple Watch–first. The watch runs the workout — live heart rate, zone coaching, haptics, and voice prompts — while the iPhone app provides onboarding, live mirroring of the workout, history, and settings. An Apple Watch is recommended for the full heart-rate-guided experience.
Why does the app ask for Health permissions?
Ramp4x4 uses Apple HealthKit to read heart rate and related metrics during workouts and to save completed workouts to Apple Health. Your health data stays on your devices — see the Ramp4x4 Privacy Policy. You can change permissions at any time in the Apple Health app or iOS Settings.
Where is my workout data stored?
On your own devices: workouts are saved through Apple Health, and your presets and settings are stored locally and may sync through your private iCloud storage. We do not store your health, workout, or location data on servers we control.
How do I manage or cancel my subscription?
Ramp4x4 Premium is an auto-renewable subscription (monthly or annual) billed through your Apple ID. To manage or cancel it, open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions — or manage it in the App Store. Canceling stops the next renewal; you keep access until the end of the current billing period.
How do I get a refund?
Purchases are processed by Apple, so refunds are handled by Apple rather than by us. You can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com while signed in with the Apple ID used for the purchase.
I reinstalled the app — how do I get Premium back?
Your subscription is tied to your Apple ID, not the install. Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple ID you used to purchase, and your entitlement should be restored. If Premium does not unlock, contact [email protected].
My heart rate or workout data looks wrong
Heart rate, VO₂ max, pace, and calorie figures are estimates and depend on sensor contact, watch fit, and conditions. Make sure your watch is snug and clean, and that Ramp4x4 has Health permissions enabled. If something still looks off, email us with the workout date and what you expected to see.
